School Bus Driver (Port Louis)

Job Purpose

The School Bus Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable and punctual transportation for students to and from school and on authorised school trips. The driver is expected to maintain high standards of safety, professionalism and courtesy while ensuring the wellbeing of all passengers.

Key Responsibilities

Student Transportation

• Safely transport students to and from school according to the assigned route and schedule.
• Ensure students board and disembark the bus safely.
• Maintain order and appropriate behaviour on the bus.
• Conduct headcounts where required to ensure all students are accounted for.
• Report any incidents or concerns involving students immediately.

Vehicle Safety & Maintenance

• Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
• Ensure the bus is clean, fuelled and in good working condition.
• Report any mechanical faults, damage or maintenance requirements promptly.
• Ensure all safety equipment is present and operational.
• Keep accurate vehicle inspection and maintenance records as required.

Compliance

• Comply with all road traffic laws and school transport policies.
• Maintain a valid driving licence and any required transport permits.
• Adhere to all health and safety procedures.
• Ensure student confidentiality and professionalism at all times.

Communication

• Communicate professionally with parents, students and school staff.
• Notify the school promptly of delays, emergencies or route issues.
• Work closely with the school administration regarding transport arrangements.

Additional Duties

• Assist with transportation for school events, educational visits and other authorised activities.
• Support the school’s mission by demonstrating courtesy, patience and respect.
• Perform other transport-related duties as assigned by the school management.

Qualifications

• Minimum secondary school education.
• Valid licence to operate a school bus or passenger transport vehicle, in accordance with local regulations.
• Clean driving record.

Experience

• Previous experience driving a school bus or passenger vehicle is preferred.
• Experience working with children is an advantage.

Working Hours
